When it comes to heating and cooling, the main difference between a commercial space and a residential space is their actual demands. In a residential space, it is often enough to have just one thermostat to communicate with the furnace to heat the whole house. The thermostat is usually placed in a neutral room to determine the average temperature in the home. If things get too cold, the furnace heats up. If things get too warm, the air gets cooled down. Unlike a residential space, a commercial space has many more rooms, each with its own unique set of demands, or in HVAC terms, “load”. For example, a room with many people and machinery produces a heavy “load” and therefore has a unique set of HVAC needs. Whereas there could be a space in the same building that needs a complete opposite temperature. That is why commercial HVAC produces a unique set of demands that have to be met with creative solutions. At R.J.
